SOHO20 Chelsea presents "Soft Touch/Wondering Eye," a father-daughter collaborative exhibition of sculpture by Monica Bock and photographs by R. Darrell Bock. Though divergent in theme and media, their work is linked, as Zofia Burr suggests in her introduction, by visual austerities that variously evoke feelings of wonder, amusement, apprehension, evanescence and mortality. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 30 through June 24. An opening reception will be held on June 3 from 5pm - 7pm. Exhibition catalogs will be available at the Gallery.
Monica Bock is Associate Professor of Art at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. She has exhibited widely in such venues as Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, Pittsburgh's Mattress Factory, Mobius in Boston, and Art in General in New York City. She received her BA in Art from Oberlin College, and her BFA and MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she then became an Adjunct Assistant Professor before accepting her current teaching position in Connecticut. She has received a variety of awards including an Arts Midwest/NEA Regional Visual Arts Fellowship. R. Darrell Bock is Professor Emeritus in the Division of Social Sciences of the University of Chicago. He has had a long involvement with camera and dark room, working in small, medium and large format and with black-and-white and color. He has exhibited in photographic shows including the 1970 City of Man exhibition at the Bergman Gallery in Chicago. His genres include portraiture, architectural, travel, and more recently art photography with an evocative psychological dimension.
