This work is about giving the photographic image a physical and tangible dimension. By combining the photograph and commonplace everyday familiar objects such as a teacup or a picture frame, new meanings and relationships can be expressed. The frame can act as a metaphor for containment and memory, yet memory exists in the mind and has no physical presence. The influence and persistence of memory can reach far and wide.
I see the process of collage and assemblage as having limitless possibilities. The dialogue of text and image, two and three dimensions, and fragmentation and wholeness, are favorite themes of mine. The role of the subconscious plays an important part in my work. Some of the materials I work with include newsprint, men's ties, eyeglasses, and photos that I find or take myself.
