Pipe Dreams, the new exhibit from artist, Lucy Hodgson presents work that is both organic and architectural. Using recycled wooden shingles, plywood and plumbing material, Hodgson creates a world composed of fluid organic structures that simultaneously recall natural phenomena as well as reveal a view into the mechanics of their own construction.

Upon entering the gallery the viewer meets steel splashes or puddles hovering above the floor. In the next installation they approach one of three free standing sculptures made entirely of wood, pipes and shingles. These three major sculptures are a perfect resolution of Hodgson¹s prolific career working as an artist in New York City. In the past, she has used wood to take advantage of the anthropomorphic forms that are found in the material in its natural state. These pieces gave us the sense that the work refer more to the human form than to material culture. In the current show these forms are juxtaposed with the incorporation of cast- off, recycled building material. Shingles mimic scales or feathers covering a skin while plumbing pipes spill out of orifices and act like legs supporting these massive structures. The show finishes with three large prints made from the steel splashes on the floor and three small wall pieces using a steel duct system that pour through wooden frames on the gallery walls.

Lucy Hodgson has had several solo exhibitions in New York, and has participated in symposia and exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary and South Korea. She has work in a number of public collections, including the Neuberger Museum, The Biblioteque Nationale, the New York University Print Collection, as well as AT&T, Long Lines, Seiko Time Corporation, Manufacturers Hanover Bank, Citicorp, Atlantic Rickfield Co. and Chase Manhattan Bank.
