SUZANNE RITGER
FOREIGN REFLECTIONS: recent paintings
SOHO20 CHELSEA is pleased to feature "Foreign Reflections",
an exhibit of recent oil paintings by Suzanne Ritger. This body of
work is inspired by the watery scapes of Venice, New York, and Vermont.
These paintings seduce and disorient viewers with luxurious and brilliant
colors, evocative shapes and healthy brush strokes. The imagery is
vaguely familiar and commands discovery of what the reflections' sources
are and how the artist got there. Some answers are offered by the
small samplings of the surroundings and some are purely what lies
on top of the water.
These works build on the same theme of reflections, in-depth pool
views, and waterfalls that Suzanne has developing throughout the last
15 years in her painting. Recent transitions from living and working
at the Vermont Studio Center to moving to New York City and teaching
in Venice have supplied ample material to continue this exploration.
"Foreign Reflections" is Ritger's second solo exhibit at SOHO20 Chelsea.
She had work in the "American River" travelling exhibit at the Florence
Griswald Museum in Connecticutt and the Brattleboro Museum of Art
in Vermont. Ritger has also recently shown work at Ameringer Yohe
Gallery in Florida and the Washington Square Galleries NYU small works
show. She earned her Masters of Fine Art at Johnson State College
in Vermont and was born in New Jersey.
Join the artist at the reception on Thursday, September 9, 2004 from
6-8PM.
