SOHO20 Chelsea is pleased to present a new solo show of painting and prints from artist Jane Voorhees. In these pieces Voorhees portrays provocative images of anonymous figures targeted through a scope. These images communicate the experience of grappling with factors beyond our control, forces at play that we may never be fully aware of; events we are powerless to prevent.
Voorhees' work is not only a reflection but in fact a vital component of her life. For her the process of artmaking is at her epicenter, itself an emotional, spiritual and physical activity. Working quickly she wipes away layers of wet paint to reveal layer upon layer underneath. Each piece is the sum of a long arduous cumulative process.
Jane Voorhees has exhibited at galleries and museums throughout the United States including: Mulvane Art Museum in Topeka, Kansas, Nelson -Atkins Museum of Art , Kansas City, MO, and The Albrecht - Kempner Museum of Art, St. Joseph, Missouri.
This will be her third solo exhibition at SOHO20 Chelsea Gallery For more information, or visuals, contact Carl Eckhoff at SOHO20 Chelsea by e-mail: soho20@verizon.net or by phone: (212) 367- 8994. |
