The slides of works of art by women artists are reviewed monthly for the following categories of membership and other exhibition opportunities.

FULL MEMBERSHIP:

Full membership includes a show every two-and-a-half years in the main gallery and participation in a group show in alternate years.
Members are required to make a two-and-a-half year commitment to the gallery.

  • Gallery I - monthly dues of $256.50, a one-time initiation fee* of $500
  • Gallery II - monthly dues of $154, a one-time initiation fee of $300 *
Initiation fees can be paid in installments during the first year of membership.

FELLOWSHIP MEMBERSHIP

An artist who is accepted for Fellowship membership will recieve two years of dues during which time the artist has all the privileges and obligations of membership, has the benefit of our director, gets one - one person show and is included in any group shows etc. The artist would be responsible for promotion of her show (announcements, mailing, reception and advertising above the free lisitings that we provide). In order to qualify the artist must reside in the New York metorpolitan area and be able to be an active participant in gallery operations.

SPECIAL MEMBERSHIPS:

  • Gallery I Membership at Large - monthly dues of $297 , a one time initiation fee of $500
  • Gallery II Membership at Large - monthly dues of $196, a one time initiation fee of $300
  • Affiliate Membership - yearly dues of $888 for the first year. Affiliates participate in our annual National Affiliates group exhibition.

REQUIREMENTS OF MEMBERSHIP:

  1. Payment of dues in a timely fashion.
  2. Each member is required to abide by the rules set forth in the by-laws of SOHO20 and in its manual of operations.
  3. Participation in the operations of the organization by doing committee work and attending monthly meetings.
    (This is waived by members-at-large and National Affiliates).
  4. Each member is responsible for the costs of her publicity and advertising, with the exception of a listing in Art Now Gallery Guide, Chelsea Art Map, as well as various free listings.
    (The gallery also has an extensive mailing list.)
  5. Each member must sign a renewable contract for a 30 month period.

INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES:

  • There are occasional opportunities for non-members to participate in invitational exhibits. They may be one person or group shows. women who want to be considered for these opportunities may submit slides and accompanying material for our files.

 

THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

Women artists wishing to apply (to one of the above categories) are invited to submit the following:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. 10 slides of representative recent work. All slides should be clearly labeled with the artist's name, title of work, medium, size, and date.
  3. A separate slide list, numbered to correspond with the slides, and including the title of the work, medium, size, and date.
  4. A resume or brief biography, including education, exhibitions and other relevant information
  5. For Fellowship Membership Application only: the first page of last year's income tax return.
  6. A brief (no more than one page) artist's statement about the work.
  7. Catalogues, reviews, and brochures about the work. (optional)
  8. A self-addressed stamped envelope should be included for the return of all materials.

THE SELECTION PROCESS:

Once a month, except August, the members of SOHO20 carefully review the slide and supporting information submitted by artists applying for membership or other exhibition opportunities. After an initial approval, a request will be made to see actual work at SOHO20. In order for an applicant to become a member there must be a two-thirds majority vote in her favor.
